Plutarchos Sakellaris is Professor at Athens University of Economics and Business.

Professor Sakellaris conducts research on banking, business investment, business cycles, economic growth and education. He has published his research at top economics journals such as American Economic Review, Journal of Monetary Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, International Economic Review among others. He has taught at the University of Maryland at College Park, the University of Ioannina and has lectured at several Universities. He has also served as Staff Economist at the Federal Reserve Board and as Visiting Expert at the European Central Bank.

From 2008 to 2012 he was Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), where he was in charge of Risk Management, the Economics Department and the Bank's activities on energy. His responsibilities also included supervising financing operations in Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, sub-Saharan African, the Caribbean and the Pacific countries.

Prior to joining the EIB, Professor Sakellaris held the position of Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers at the Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Finance. He was a member of the European Union's Economic and Financial Committee and of the Euro Working Group. He served as Deputy to the Finance Minister at the Eurogroup and ECOFIN Councils of the E.U. and as Alternate Governor for Greece at the World Bank.

He currently serves as Non-Executive Director at various listed and Private Equity - backed companies.

He graduated from Brandeis University with a B.A. in Economics and Computer Science, summa cum laude, with Highest Honors. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.
